Ricordate la mia “vecchia” recensione su geubuntu?

Sì??? Molte delle piccole imprecisioni segnalate nel post sono state corrette, ed ad altre si sta lavorando, con il rilascio di un bug-fix a pochi giorni dall’uscita. Mi sarebbe bastato aggiornare la distro (che purtroppo usavo in modo liveCD) per rendermi conto delle migliorie. Quindi chiedo scusa al team di geubuntu e ai lettori del blog di questo mio bug, ormai fixato.

Molti piccoli problemucci e bugs (non ci sono bugs solo piccole imperfezioni) sono stati prontamente risolti grazie al rilascio un aggiurnamento bug-fix, quindi mi vedo “costretto” ad editare il post. E di ciò sono molto felice.

Dopo un mese di assenza ritorno a scrivere qualcosa su questo bloggaccio! Il tempo non è molto, ma le idee ci sono… anche perchè qui trovate solo argomenti originali (mica pettino le bambole… io…)!

E siccome non so quando ancora riposterò approfitto del post per ringraziare: tutte le persone che passano su questo blogguccio (che tra l’altro invito a lasciare ogni tanto qualche commento, critica, segnalazione, richiesta o quellochevolete nella messagebox perchè sono sempre disponibile ); i chattoni della chat di archlinux ed e17 che spesso e volentieri mi hanno aiutato nei casi più inverosibili e poi tuxfeed, “il portale linux” che mi concede una certa visibilità.

Chiusa la parentesi personale entriamo nel merito del post: “Geubuntu luna nuova“!!!

Geubuntu luna nuova

Per chi si fosse perso qualche puntata, geubuntu è una distro linux ubuntu-based, ideata e realizzata da Luca de Marini aka TheDarkMaster, che si prefigge di realizzare un desktop usabile con un cuore costituito da e17 e l’aiuto di applicativi gnome e xfce.

Da qualche giorno è stata rilasciata la nuova versione gutsy-based: luna nuova! Mi raccomando: intasate il mirror…

Le novità sono molte rispetto al precente rilascio: una su tutte è quella che rende geubuntu una derivata al pari di ubuntustudio o fluxubuntu cioè con dei repository e pacchetti propri installabili su una ubuntu semplice. In partica potete trasformare la vostra ubuntu gutsy in una geubuntu o semplicemente usufruire di alcuni pacchetti utili.

Sarò breve e conciso perchè il tempo è tirannosaurus rex!

Su windows c’è ancora qualche problemino:”Geubuntu o Ubuntu?”

Bootato il cd non vi accoglie nessuo splash grafico, problemi di gutsy, bensì un puntatore testuale in alto a destra. Quindi non allarmatevi se non accade nulla perchè nel giro di pochi minuti vi ritroverete una schermata come sopra.
Si notano subito un tema nuovo compreso di sfondo animato (eh sì! e17 è anche questo: sfondi animati ed eye candy a non finire, altro che kde4…) e lo xfcepanel in alto a garantire una traybar per e17 che ne è sprovvisto.

In quest’altra immagine invece vedete quattro applicazioni scritte con 3 toolkit grafici diversi convivere in una “discreta” armonia: thunar(gtk) file manager di xfce, extrackt(etk) clone di soundjuicer, efm(efl) altro file manager ed eclair(efl) riproduttore audio.

Vediamo anche che c’è una strana retrocompatibilità con gnome e ubuntu gutsy!!! Infatti gli effetti grafici non sono utilizzabili e gdm sarebbe meglio sostituirlo con entrance (il fantastico login manager di e17).

Non è possibile utilizzare entrance causa un bug, di ignota provenienza, che si va a creare con il network manager , al quale si sta lavorando per la risoluzione.

Notiamo con piacere che è stato scritto un piccolo script che aiuta il passaggio dalla configurazione di una ubuntu gutsy ad una geubuntu prima luna.

Qui invece abbiamo la distro in versione moonlight ovvero con il tema dark, davvero carino!!! (le immagini di prima fanno riferimento alla versione di default con tema sunshine)

Spunta un piccolo problemino con le false trasparenze del terminale…

Nonostante tutto è molto reattiva. Infatti usata da live e con un semplice 2500+ si ci può benissimo lavorare, cosa che mi è quasi impossibile con una ubuntu-live.

osservazioni e giudizio finale

La distro è scattante e abbastanza intuitiva, oltre che bella graficamente anche se ancora una volta mi trovo in disaccordo con diverse scelte. Ma purtroppo le distro non le fanno solo per me, quindi mi dovrò accontentare. Detto questo, faccio notare solo le mie perplessità che mi auguro vengano prese come spunto per migliorare.

E’ un peccato che i pacchetti relativi ad e17 non siano molto aggiornati perchè nelle ultime settimane ci sono state moltissime migliorie da vedere.

La scelta dei programmi non mi aggrada molto: eclair ormai non è più sviluppato e lo stesso vale per gli altri programmi con le efl quindi li caricati di default; gdm non so perchè debba continuare a vivere quando c’è entrance (tra l’altro da anche qualche problemino grafico al cambio temi e all’avvio); il gestore temi di gnome l’avrei sostituito con un più comodo gtk switcher; vlc l’avrei levato di mezzo visto che fa crashare e17, se a schermo intero(è un bug conosciuto), e poi, mia opinione, avrei utilizzato altre apps nella configurazioni di default…

Notate la differenza di uso di ram tra la geubuntu con tema sunshine e quella con il tema ufficiale di e17…

Molto probabilmente è dovuto allo sfondo che è animato, ma nonostante ciò, come avevo già scritto su, la distro è velocissima.

Dal punto di vista grafico sono rimasto molto colpito dai temi di e17 che, nonostante siano cloni modificati del tema bling ufficiale di e, sono molto originali, anche se alla lunga stufano (soprattutto il sunshine che è troppo sgargiante). Mentre sono rimasto deluso dalla pesantezza dei temi stessi e dei temi gtk: avrei preferito qualcosa di più sobrio come un clearlooks modificato o un murrine.

Ed ecco, infine, la mia versione con tema ufficiale di e17, sfondo dark, tema gtk dorato basato su clearlooks (eccovelo…) e una configurazione delle shelves più semplice. Il tutto realizzabile con pochissimi click e non dopo ore di compliazione… (a buon utente di e17 poche parole )

Si sta lavorando per alleggerire i temi, che già di per se sono leggerissimi!!! Questo a dimostrazione dell’impegno e della voglia di migliorarsi.

Ricordo poi che molto di quanto scritto sono mie impressioni soggettive, non difetti o bug insiti nella distro.

In conclusione posso dire che il progetto mi piace e sarebbe valido solo per il fatto di integrare e17 come ambiente desktop! La pecca vera e propria risiede nel fatto che la distro è ubuntu based… nonostante ciò è da provare!

Mentre tutta la blogosfera (ossblog, felipe…) perde tempo a segnalare una news, che sul mio fantastico blog era presente da un po’ (un po’ di autocelebrazione non fa male!!!), vi propongo un’altra chicca.

Gustavo Sverzut Barbieri (uno dei dev del team di e) e Rasterman, velatamente, prevedono l’uscita di e17 tra febbraio e marzo!!! Volevate una data? Eccovela:

Non ci sono date ma più o meno… Diciamo che per la befana dovremmo avere già qualcosina di concreto e per pasqua avremo l’ovetto: il rilascio di e17!!!

In questi giorni non ho proprio tempo per scrivere, ma vi allego un’altra news su e17. Vista la qualità della news che ci arrivano dalla blogosfera (1 e 2)…

Direttamente dalla mailing list, Rasterman ci comunica:

First.

I need to offer some big apologies. I have been pretty bad at being responsive
and attentive to E for a while now. I can give you a million reasons (excuses)
- but that not fair. I’ve basically been “paying the rent” with Jobs – and they
have not had anything to do with E (first) and then nothing to do with Open
source OR E. This means E swindled into a small corner of my world. I’ve been
bad to respond to mail or provide any form of direction ,feedback – or for that
matter – leadership. Please accept my sincerest apologies. It’s my fault and my
problem. I need to fix this.

And fix it I shall. That is my intent. So launching into fixing, I shall do
below. So bear with me.

First on to some news. It may has snuck out before and it’s now official. I’m @
OpenMoko ( http://www.openmoko.org ) now. Why? Back to OpenSource roots – and
for that matter, back to Linux, X11 and Graphics… and…. E! For those who
don’t know what OpenMoko is – read the link. It’s exciting.

This mans I now will have more time. Right now I will be all over the place – I
am shifting countries again, so I’ll be sporadic with E-mail and reachability,
but that will settle. I’m moving (partly) back to Sydney, Australia, and the
other half of my time i will be in Taipei or other locations. But I do intend
to have more focus and support on E.

Now why? OpenMoko is convinced the technology behind E is what it takes to make
exciting mobile phones that are Linux based and OpenSource.This amounts to
what is commercial support for E. This makes me excited. This opens doors for
us. In addition to the work Nokia’s INDT are doing, Terrasoft, and now gOS with
Everex – this is a growing list of companies putting their faith in us. Some of
you may be suspicious of this – please do not be. In E land we have believed in
freedom – not a limited brand of it, but one that ALSO gives freedom to those
producing commercial products to do whatever it is they need or want to do. I
believe that in the end, they will come back to the fold and not close and hide
their source, because the cost of maintaining a fork is just too high. I belive
with support will come resources, and resources will mean development of the
things you need and want. Everyone wins.

One thing people may notice is that E is getting some splits. Desktop vs.
“Embedded”. Apps vs libraries and multiple libraries and projects. I don’t
think E will ever really totally split – it will just have lots of useful
libraries, tools and apps – different ones aiming for different directions. One
thing I hope to do is keep E together – even if there are different directions.

I also see the team growing – this is great, but it serves to just increase
communication traffic, and that in turn means less coding gets done. The
traditional solution here is to start some hierarchy and “reporting lines”. I
don’t want to do this though – this will server to create splits where once
there was fluid freedom. If we must – we must. Any suggestions? I’m thinking of
maybe just formalising a bit more of our developer “Relations”, involvement and
teamwork. Some Ideas for people-things:

1. Identify people who WANT to be leaders and shape the direction of E – and
are willing to spent the effort. Some of you do it as a hobby and love just
that, some do it for a job, others are in half-way houses.
2. Lets have actual weekly or monthly developer meetings – literally all-in live
discussions – maybe IRC? Have actual agendas in meetings. Minutes.
3. Have regular community meetings where people can tell us what they like and
don’t – give feedback or whatever.
4. Try an organise some annual get-together. An “E meet” (I think I’ll just
call it “The Rave” for now – it fits with the whole E thing). So Literally find
a place on the planet we all can/want to go to – go there.

Now we also need to fix up enlightenment.org a bit – I intend to sink a bit of
time into solidifying some content. The Wiki has a fair bit. Anyone is welcome
to contribute as they see fit.

But the primary thing of importance is getting E17 out the door. It’s actually
looking petty good. Only 2 really big TODO items left. I’m doing a theme
revamp. The Default theme has very much aged. The gold bling isn’t incredibly
popular. I’m working on something I think people will love – and it still shows
off E. It will replace the current default – and will also knock off some of
the “comment the default theme so its better documented for people to build new
themes from and learn Edje.

Once E17 is out I intend to work hard on taking E mobile. That mans giving it
the ability to run beautifully on tiny 1-4″ screens or so, from 320×240 up to
800×480 or beyond but work like a charm with touchcreens, stylus’s or fingers,
with or without a keyboard or other buttons. But above all – it has to be sexy.
This will simply be extending E – adding hooks, modules or module replacements.
This will not mean E for the desktop is abandoned by me – it means it is simply
a parallel focus – I use it every day of my life on every machine I have. Now I
want it in the palm of my hand too.

I hope that everyone can be just as excited. I know I am. I smell a new age
of… Enlightenment.

Comunque il problema è quanto di quello che ha detto si realizzerà in qualcosa di serio? Davvero non smetterà di sviluppare e per desktop? Davvero a breve avremo un qualcosa che assomigli ad una release?

Personalmente credo fermamente nelle parole di Rasterman! Anzi, ci voglio credere!!!

Oggi il grande “Rasterman” ha aggiunto un’altra apps al cvs di e17. Senza nessun grande proclamo ufficiale, leggiamo tra i log cvs: “exquisite splashscreen – put in cvs.”.
Certo, non che ci sia granchè da dire. Exquisite è un semplicissimo splashscreen, simil psplash, per dispositivi embedded, quindi, per adesso, nulla di realmente utilizzabile per i nostri desktop casalinghi. Tuttavia, siccome il lavoro è di Rasterman ed è un progetto efl-based non potevo che provarlo.

Riporto qui il README di exquisite (un po’ lunghetto):

Exquisite 0.0.1

This is a psplash replacement that is very simple and uses EFL (Evas, Edje,
Ecore etc.) for display – thus having immensely powerful theme abilities
without needing any platform-specific compiled themes or modules. It is
compatible with psplash with the same message commands (and more). The
difference is that it requires libraries like evas, edje, ecore, eet and
embryo. These also have loadable modules of their own – thus this isn’t
perfect for systems that can’t have these libraries available and working at
boot, but if you can, it’s a lot more capable than other splash engines,
while still running in the framebuffer.

If you want fraembuffer support to work, evas and ecore will need to be built
with FB support. X11 support requires X11 (software and/or xrender) to be

Once you have met requirements, compiling and installing is simple:

There is a demo included in the demo/ directory:

As a very basic sample of what can be done – will run by default in X11 in a
window and is a great way to test themes etc. Read run-demo.sh for some more
details on commands used.

So how does this work?
———————-

1. You need to launch the exquisite somehow as the “display server”. This
will display the Exquisite screen and default theme in its basic state. There
are many command line options, run ‘exquisite -h’ for a list. Here is what
they are:

-x11 Display using software X11
The default engine is the software X11 one anyway – so this option isn’t
that useful.
-gl Display using OpenGL in X11
This uses the OpenGL engine if available in ecore and evas. Requires working
OpenGL libraries and an Xserver.
-fb Display using Framebuffer
This uses the linux framebuffer for display. It requires FB support in
ecore and evas. It will use the current bit depth and resolution for the FB.
Note that Evas’s FB engine only supports 15, 16 and 24/32 bpp. 8bpp is not
supported.
-xr Display using XRender
This uses Xrender for display under X11.
-fs Display fullscreen (use current screen res)
This makes Exquisite ask to go fullscreen. Under X11 it requires a WM to be
present, and will mean Exquisite uses the whole FB res when in FB mode.
-t theme Use Theme file ‘theme’
This specifies which theme to use. You can specify a relative or full path
to a specifric EDJE file (eg /path/to/theme.edj) or just a theme name like
“default” or “mydistro”. themes must be put in
PREFIX/share/exquisite/data/themes , where PREFIX is the install prefix for
exquisite (the default is /usr/local). When using theme short names, the
theme name is just the filename of the EDJE file in the theme directory
minus the .edj extension.
-x res Use horizontal res ‘res’
Display with a window or display resoltuion width of ‘res’ pixels
-y res Use vertical res ‘res’
Display with a window or display resolution height of ‘res’ pixels
-ic Kb Set image cache in Kb
Use ‘Kb’ Kilobytes of memory for caching image data from disk to avoid
re-reading data1. You need to launch the exquisite somehow as the “display server”. This

better, but if you want to reduce CPU overhead, run at a lower ‘fps’. The
default is 30 frames per second. Note that Exquisite will LOWER the fps as
needed if it can’t animate at the fps asked. This will mean animations will
take the same amount of time, but just be more “jerky”.

Some example command-lines you may want:

exquisite -fb -fs
exquisite -fb -fs -t ubuntu
exquisite -fb -fs -t openmkoko -fps 15
exquisite -fb -fs -t /boot/fedora.edj -fps 60

Remember that exquisite won’t detech from the shell – and it doesn’t write a
PID file – there is no need because you can communicate via exquisite-write.

2. You need a /tmp directory for the UNIX socket that is used to talk to
exquisite. The exquisite-write utility sends messages to exquisite via a UNIX
domain socket created in /tmp. This needs to be writable for exquisite to
start.

3. Use exquisite-write to send messages to the display. Your init scripts will
need to be peppered with instances of exquisite-write. Its parameters are
compatible with psplash. Here are the common examples that are compatible:

exquisite-write MSG X
Tell Exquisite to display the text message “X” on the screen. Remember to
quote or escape whitespace for the “X” parameter.
exquisite-write PROGRESS N
Tell Exquisite to update some progress display to be at “N” percent. N should
be an integer value from 0 to 100.
exquisite-write QUIT
Tell Exquisite to exit immediately, freeing up its FB console or closing its
X11 window.

These commands are extended (themes may or may not support them):

exquisite-write END
This asks Exquisite to exit “nicely”. Exquisite in turn asks the theme to
shut down. This may be animated and take some period of time. The
exquisite-write command will not return until the shut down has finished.
exquisite-write TITLE X
Tell Exquisite to display a title of “X” on the screen.
exquisite-write TICK
Send a “tick” (a heartbeat) to Exquisite. This may be used to indicate
visially to the user that the boot process is working and is busy, and things
are alive, but are not making any “progress”.

4. You may want to do a theme of your own. Themes are done using Edje – the
same theme engine used for Enlightenment 0.17, EWL, ETK, Rage, and other
applications and toolkits. For detailed information on Edje themeing please
see http://www.enlightenment.org. For the purposes of Exquisite, there is a
sample (minimal) theme included. See data/themes/default.edc for the source.

An Exquisite theme must:

1. Respond to the “exquisite” “exit” signal. On this signal it must shut down
somehow – and then emit a “exquisitie” “done” signal to indicate it is done.
2. Must provide an “exquisite.message” TEXT part, OR have a sctip message
handler that handles string messages. Message ID 1 is the message with the
string to display if it choses to handle these via script. There will also be
an “exquisite” “message” signal sent when a new message string is set.
3. Must provide a dragable item “exquisite.progress” that is confined to
another part so drag values 0.0 -> 1.0 can be used to indicate progress from
0% to 100%. If the theme does not provide this it needs a script message
handler. When a message ID 2 is sent – it is a float message and the float is
from 0.0 to 1.0 indicating progress. In addition a “exquisite” “progress”
signal is sent when the dragable position is set.

Optional support:

1. Respond to “exquisite” “tick” signals visually some how. One of these
indicates the system is still alive and booting, but cannot indicate a
change in progress.
2. Provide a “exquisite.title” part that can hold a title text. When text is
changed a “exquisite” “title” signal is also emitted. If this part does not
exist a script message handler shoudl exist and handle string messages with
ID 0 that contain the new title.

Please see the default.edc file for details on some of the above. Script
message versions are not demonstrated at this time (though these can be much
more powerful).

Future Development:
——————-

Exquisite has started as a psplash replacement. This is a small splash
utility targetting embedded devices. Exquisite hopes to be more capable and
flexible with visual branding. It is very small and builds on the
Enlightenment Foundation Libraries to do its work. In future more features
would be good, such as handling user interaction (via buttons/keyboard or
touchscreen), as well as compatibility with usplash commands and features so
it can also be used as a drop-in desktop replacement for usplash. These
commands (and features) are:

TIMEOUT secs
Set a timeout in seconds between commands. If no command is received by the
timout, exit.
CLEAR
Clear all text.
TEXT text
Display the text given, and scroll up any previous text (if appropriate).
TEXT-URGENT text
Same as TEXT, but if verbosity is off, display this anyway.
STATUS status
Display the status string for the previous line of text given by the TEXT
cmmand.
SUCCESS status
Same as “STATUS” but consider it a positive outcome.
FAILURE status
Same as “STATUS” but consider it a negative outcome.
PULSATE
Start indicating progress with a throbber (no known progress position).
INPUT prompt
Display the prompt text and wait for a user to entry some text input. When
done write the result to /dev/.initramfs/exquisite_outfifo
INPUTQUIET prompt
Same as INPUT, but no user typing is displayed on the screen (eg a password
prompt).
INPUTENTER prompt
Same as INPUT – but displays no inptu on the screen and just waits for enter

Some other things like verbose vs. quiet mode will be nice.

Come potete vedere ho evidenziato le parti più importanti e succose: in futuro exquisite potrebbe essere usato come usplah ed essere appetibile per i nostri sistemi desktop. Speriamo… anche se avrei preferito l’annuncio di una possibile data di rilascio di e17…

come dargli una sbirciatina…

Innanzitutto abbiamo bisogno di cvs per scaricare exquisite: provvedete ad installarlo, se non lo avete già fatto, con il vostro gestore pacchetti. Se usate archlinux, come spero:

pacman -Sy cvs

Poi da terminale loggatevi al cvs e scaricate il programma:

cvs -d:pserver:anoncvs@anoncvs.enlightenment.org:/var/cvs/e login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anoncvs@anoncvs.enlightenment.org:/var/cvs/e co e17/apps/exquisite

Adesso non ci resta che lanciare il demo:

Carino, no??? Peccato che e17 non abbia la stessa mole di dev come kde!!! Altrimenti altro che kde4… ufff…

Come avevo promesso in un commento, ho definitivamente cestinato Ubuntu, dopo quasi due anni di felice utilizzo come distro/Linux principale.

Il gibbone, purtroppo, è qualcosa di inutilizzabile: devede e mencoder ancora non funzionano correttamente, gnome è pacchettizzato secondo non so quale criterio (l’unico contento è felipe… che però poi passa a kde4… mentre janvitus in chat non riusciva a ripristinare beagle al posto di quella “attuale” schifezza che è tracker, causa mancanza del team di Ubuntu… etc. etc. ), checkinstall è buggato e potrei continuare…

Ubuntu è diventata una distro chiusa e difficile da configurare: ti devi tenere la configurazione iniziale, altrimenti sgarri!!! Si è arrivati al punto che per far contenti i 4 windowsiani del cazzo, abbiamo ottenuto un’ennesima copia mal riuscita del sistema di B.Gates (eppure di distro così ce ne sono a quintali…). Perchè, diciamocelo, Windows fa tutto quello che fa Ubuntu, e le distro/Linux in generale, e lo fa sicuramente meglio per l’utente medio (ma che significa l’utente medio?). Per non parlare dei programmi, dei driver e dei giochi!!! (Photoshop = Gimp??? ma dove? Dreamweaver dove sta??? e Flash???… qualcuno parla di audio con Linux… ma se ti servono tre lauree per fare solamente un copia e incolla da una traccia ad un altra…)
Potrei considerare Ubuntu come valida alternativa a Windows solo se non si hanno esigenze particolari (particolari??? questa è routine!!!), una configurazione hardware proibitiva (che significa???), non si gioca con il pc (compratevi la playstation… -.-), non si ha la pretesa di utilizzare cd comprati dal giornale, si considera che è un po’ più libera della sua antagonista, si pensa che è anche gratuita e non ci ci addentra oltre la configurazione iniziale…

OK!!! Meglio che l’utente medio si tenga Windows, anche perchè se deve mettere una distro Linux perchè non costa un tubo oppure fa figo… che se ne andasse a fanculo!!!

Uso Linux per una questione etica e di libertà del software, voglio anche pagare ma voglio il codice sorgente e tutta la fottuta documentazione per modificarmelo. E purtroppo devo usare Windows anche se, da un po’, non faccio chissà quali grandi cose con il pc: chatto con msn, masterizzo, navigo, scrivo qualche documento e magari potessi lo stamperei anche. Sì, perchè queste cose non si possono ancora fare con Linux: non si può scambiare un misero file con gli amici che usano msn (non dite che c’è jabber perchè i tuoi amici non cambiano protocollo di IM, anche perchè non sanno quello che gli staresti dicendo…); i documenti ufficiali e standard, anche senza nessuna certificazione, sono quelli di casa Redmond perchè sono i più usati (openoffice non è office…) e i driver per la mia stampante non esistono per Linux (me li dà la comunità i soldi per cambiare stampante???).

Nonostante quello che ho appena scritto resto un convinto utilizzatore Gnu/Linux disposto a sacrificare alcune operazioni pur di avere quel free che non è uguale a gratis. Per questi motivi ho sempre usato debian, provato decine di altre distro linux, sono capitato su Ubuntu debian based… vabbè… Basta! La questione era: ma adesso che Ubuntu è clone di Windows a cosa mi serve??? A niente!!!

Ma ritornando appunto ad Ubuntu, che ormai nei repository ha un’accozzaglia di apps spesso inutile, non testata e non funzionante! Non è bella graficamente!!!… mi chiedo se il team di Ubuntu si rende conto che il 99% degli utenti prova la necessita di modificare sfondo e tema a Gnome, già dopo 3 minuti di utilizzo. Eppure Cimi ha fatto un bel grosso lavoro…

Ero arrivato al punto che perdevo più tempo a cambiare la configurazione della distro che ad usarla effettivamente. Ho capito che Ubuntu non fa più per me e non so nemmeno più realmente come altri possano usarla… usate debian!!! DEBIAN! (io la mia partizioncina con debian non l’ho mai cancellata, anche se non la uso spesso!!!)

Dopo aver scritto il mio post, leggo, proprio su tuxfeed, che coobox mi da un po’ ragione. Allora il mio è un sentimento comune! L’avevo previsto! (eheheh)

Spero di essermi spiegato…

Se la mia spiegazione è riuscita e almeno una volta avete desiderato di poter semplicemente scaricare un pacchetto per avere sulla vostra distro, appena installata: tutte le apps che vi servono, tutte le dipendenze per la compilazione di kde4 o e17, tutti i codecs free e non-free… etc etc … i metapacchetti fanno al caso vostro.

Molti di voi penseranno che la creazione di un metapacchetto sia un’impresa per pochi, invece grazie a equivs, un fanstastico tool per metapacchetti deb, chiunque può realizzare il suo “innocuo” metapacchetto fatto in casa!

Per prima cosa scarichiamo il megafantasticotool: equivs.

OK! Il file che state scaricando è un metapacchetto che risolve semplicemente la dipendenza di equivs, che avreste potuto benissimo installare con apt-get o il vostro gestore di pacchetti. eheheh

Adesso che dovreste avere tutto vediamo come procedere.

Equivs si snoda in due semplici comandi:

• equivs-control nomefilecontrol

  Si limita a creare un file control generico, che serve a dare le indicazioni su come creare il pacchetto deb e che potete vedere sotto. (Chi di voi già è pratico di pacchetti deb, saprà che il file control è un po’ il “nocciolo del pacchetto”. Però non credo sia adesso il caso di appronfondire…)

  ### Commented entries have reasonable defaults.

  Come potete vedere il tutto è abbastanza intuitivo. Le voci da modificare necessariamente sono: “Package”, “Description” e “Depends”, dove vanno nome pacchetto, descrizione e dipendenze. Ovvio no?

  Se volete fare qualcosina di più serio, potete anche modificare: “Section”, inserendo, così, il pacchetto in una particolare categoria, di modo che sia più facilmente riconoscibile; “Version”, assegnando al pacchetto una numero di versione (nel caso seguissero aggiornamenti) e “Mantainer”, mettedo il vostro nome ed e-mail per la gloria. Altre modifiche sarebbero pressocchè inutili, a meno che non sappiate ciò che volete fare…

  !!!RICORDATE: QUANDO CAMBIATE UN’OPZIONE E’ NECESSARIO DECOMMENTARE LA RIGA CHE LA CONTIENE, CANCELLANDO IL CANCELLETTO #.!!!

“L’uscita di Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon slitterà!!!”

Quello che scrivo sopra è solo una supposizione, anche perchè sul sito di ubuntu, attualmente, leggo un: -7 01:23:46!!!
Sicuramente il team di ubuntu non ha fatto bene i conti, perchè lo stato attuale della distro lascia molto a desiderare in quanto a stabilità e pacchetti. Non è possibile inserire in una distro, che si presume debba essere stabile, alcuni programmi che sono palesemente buggati di loro, che sono appena stati rilasciati e che crashano… purtroppo però…
Questo sta diventando l’andazzo ufficiale di ubuntu che, a differenza della sua distro madre, sta cominciando a fare rilasci instabili e buggati, almeno da feisty, molto spesso accompagnati da un disinteresse nel risolvere i problemi. (vedere il post su devede)
Possibile che non solo dobbiamo avere un parco pacchetti buggato, ma che ce lo dobbiamo anche sorbire per l’intera durata del ciclo di vita della distro???
Possibile che feisty abbia rilasciato dopo pochi giorni della sua uscita un aggiornamento al kernel??? Possibile che… vabe’ torniamo a gutsy…
Allo stato attuale delle cose, vedo la release gibboniana davvero insoddisfacente sotto l’aspetto della stabilità.

Qualcuno dirà che “è pur sempre una beta”, ma siamo solo a sette giorni dal rilascio e adesso si ci dovrebbe occupare solo delle piccole rifiniture, non stare ancora a sistemare pacchetti e grossi bug (spesso dipendenti dai programmi spessi).

Non credo di volere una distro instabile, voi???

Per questi motivi che mi auspico una uscita slittata e di certo un più stabile, perchè il lavoro fin’ora fatto è davvero importante ma incompleto. Ho visto un compiz straordinariamente integrato, almeno in gnome!!! Ho visto delle fantastiche applet!!! (o no???) Ma ho anche visto un kde buggato (anche se non dipende da ubuntu)!!! Ho visto uno gnome crashare più di una volta!!! Ho visto che pppoeconf non mi si configura l’accesso ad internet!!! Ho visto che mancano ancora le dipendenze!!! Ho visto che il live-cd della beta e l’alternate non installano nulla, il primo si pianta dopo il partizionamento e il secondo allo spacchettamento di tomboy!!! Vi basta???

Incrociamo le dita e speriamo che in sette giorni si compia il miracolo!!! -.-
